3' BUOY LIGHT - POLISHED
Stripped of the original red paint finish down to the copper and brass. Lights like this kept ships from running aground. This one probably went into service long before WW II. During that war the Germans tried to shoot out these life saving beacons, hoping to cripple Allied ships hauling supplies to and from Britain by causing them to lose their bearings and crash onto the rocks. Made in England and, as far as we can tell, in original condition. Circa 1920. Weighs145 lbs. Has the original Fresnel lens. Used acetylene gas as the fuel, but easily electrified.
