U.S. NAVY WW II BRASS LIFEBOAT RUDDERU. S. Navy WW II brass lifeboat rudder, 37" tall. The gleaming polished and lacquered brass top of 1 1/2" diameter brass shaft is stamped with the U. S. Navy anchor marking. The rudder measures 22" tall x 16 1/2" and is 2 1/2" thick where the brass shaft is attached to the rudder blade. A spectacular collectors item.

It is plenty old, as is apparent from its rusty condition. It's actually very decorative in its present condition! The top of the unit is marked: "catch only to be lifted while winding in." Below that: the Kelvite Merchant Pattern, Sounding Machine, Kelvine & Wilfred O White Co., Sole Makers, Boston USA. Sounding Machine No W 2006. Below that: caution to release brake one turn only.
