GREENER HARPOON GUN circa 1860
A rare example of a whaling cannon, most likely found only in a museum. The cannon is mounted on a swivel yoke rising on a 45 degree angle in the center of a 2" thick slab of mahogany 11.5" Wide by 56.5" long. The 46.5" massive harpoon is fastened to the board. A brass plaque mounted by the stock reads: "Greener Whaling Cannon By William Bruce circa 1860." Name inscribed on top of barrel: "Wm Bruce Maker Victoria Dock Dundee." Shows full inscription on barrel and the double fluted head of the harpoon. This cannon with it's 1.5" bore was said to be capable of throwing a 10 pound harpoon plus attached line, a total weight of 40 pounds, 40 yards with effect. Truly a museum quality item. VERY VERY RARE!!
