WW2 U.S. NAVY BATTLESHIP HELM / STEERING STATION . A REAL MUSEUM PIECE!!!! BY WESTINGHOUSE!
This is the jewel of your collection and could be a great addition to any WW2 Navy Exhibit.
We had two like this and sold the other to the movie “GREYHOUND”. Tom Hanks was extremely thrilled as you can’t find anything like this unless you are in a museum. They bought several pieces from our shop for the movie as Mr. Hanks likes authenticity on the set!
These steering stations were specific to the U.S. Navy WW2 Destroyer. The Large wooden wheel allowed for quick evasive movements as well as fast handling during pursuit of enemy submarines and vessels. Can you just imagine being on the bridge of the destroyer chasing an enemy submarine and just spinning that wheel for quick turns until you could get in range for depth charges! These Destroyers really won the war by escorting Liberty and Victory ships through treacherous waters to deliver the supplies that kept the fighting men and woman going!
We have many other pieces that would fit with this and come from the bridge of WW2 Ships. Telegraphs, Rudder Angle Indicators, compasses and binnacles…… please check out our other listings and keep checking back as we have thousands of items to list and have only scratched the surface. Send a message if you are looking for anything specific and we will see if we have it.
Included here are some photos from our friends of the Pilot House on the U.S.S SLATER . It shows clearly what this awesome piece looks like in its original setting. Just amazing!
