U.S. Navy WW2 Era Bendix Ships Telegraph Single Handle with Double Face and side bell. This Awesome Piece of maritime history was salvaged we believe from a Liberty Ship Post WW2. Probably manufactured in the late 1930’s and in service during WW2. This engine order Telegraph would have been on the bridge and used to communicate speed and direction to the engine room receiver.

MANUFACTURER BENDIX began with Vincent Bendix. He invented an automotive electric starting motor drive, called the “Bendix Drive” in 1914 and became a millionaire. The Bendix Drive and the 4-wheel brake system he invented were the basis for the formation of a new company in 1924. The name became Bendix Aviation in 1929 when production began to include aviation products.

The Bendix Aviation Corporation experienced tremendous growth as a result of wartime production in the 1940’s. The United States Navy contracted the firm to build nautical instruments to support the war effort.
